We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on every page of this site.
What we’ve done
- Every page is plain, prerendered HTML with real headings, landmarks and lists. Nothing you need to read is drawn only in a canvas.
- Every control is a real button, link or form field that you can reach with a keyboard, and every gesture in the glass game has a form control. Skip links lead to the main content.
- We measure the contrast of text and controls against AA in both the day and night colour schemes, and fix what falls short.
- Pinch-zoom is never blocked, and there is no sideways scrolling at 320 pixels wide.
- Form fields have visible labels, and errors are explained in words next to the field.
- On touch screens, buttons, links and form fields are at least 44 pixels tall, and each checkbox sits in a label at least 48 pixels tall.
Motion and sound
- Still mode turns off entrances and animation. It follows your device’s reduced-motion setting and can be switched in the header or the menu; we remember your choice.
- There is no background music. Short interface sounds answer what you do (pressing a button, wiping or focusing the glass in the game), and only after your first click or tap, or the first time you use a button or link from the keyboard (Space on the page itself only scrolls). Scrolling makes no sound. The sound icon in the header turns them off, and we remember that. Every sound has a visual twin, and nothing depends on hearing it.
- Nothing flashes more than three times a second.
Known limitations
- We haven’t had the site audited independently yet, or tested it with screen reader users. Both are planned before launch.
- The glass game has a form for every gesture. If any step needs a pointer, please tell us.
